My Story
Beginnings
My journey into percussion began at 13 when I received a drum kit as a birthday present. I’m not exactly sure what drew me to drumming—maybe it was the thrill of making noise, or the chance to annoy my neighbors and damage my hearing.
Learning the Darbuka
Years later, my wife introduced me to the darbuka through her Middle Eastern dance troupe. The first time I played it, I was hooked. Since then, I’ve devoted my free time to learning and mastering this incredible instrument, as well as studying with Raquy Danziger, Karim Nagi, Michael Ibrahim, as well as attending workshops in Istanbul, Turkey.
Life in Cape Coral
After relocating to Southwest Florida, I began performing with local belly dance troupes. When others showed interest in learning, the SWFL Darbuka School was born. My goal is to share the beauty of Middle Eastern rhythms and culture, and to inspire others to play this amazing drum.
